Katherine Township Northern Territory Australia

Situated 330km south East of Darwin NT along the Stuart Highway on the Katherine River.

A population of 10,000 people the town also services a region of 400,000 km sq (the size of France)

The magnificent 13 Gorges of Nitmiluk Katherine Gorge in the Northern Territory are situated 30 km out of Katherine. Take a boat cruise, canoe the gorges, do a multitude of bushwalks.....whatever you do, just do it.

Situated in the Heart of Katherine, our have our own  thermal springs which are a great place to have a dip in. With warm water just gushing from the riverbed just take your towel and a picnic and enjoy the sound of the waterfall on the lawned area. (No alcohol permitted)
From here just follow the bitumised path along the riverbed (about 1km) to the Low Level Nature Park.

The original "road bridge" across the Katherine river with the weir underneath it, gives rise to more sounds of falling water. Many peaceful spots along here to have a dip, picnic and just relax. Up top on the riverbank are coin operated BBQ facilities , grassed areas & toilets.
Try wetting a line for a barra or a brim.

This is the site of the "overland telegraph line" crossing and also the original horseback crossing from an era gone by. Situated at the rear of the Katherine Hospital  it is also a great spot to relax with the family with many secluded spots walking distance downstream. The fisherman may try the Northern bank upstream.

Situated about 20km downstream of Katherine out in the Florina road district where many townsfolk live on their 20 acre rural retreats. Galloping Jacks (or christies Rapids) and about 1km further is Crystal rapids (depends on who you speak to). Another great area to have a bit of R&R, have a BBQ , throw a lure or just try out the camera. Who knows you might be the only ones there?
